This uses an auto-scrolling javascript I came across some months ago. The original javascript was for a "down" scrolling effect. I spent some time playing around with the script because I wanted to use it as an upscroll script instead of the more normal "top of page" hyperjump. As it seemed to me, it would be a more visually attractive effect to scroll up the page instead of simply jumping up. I have seen it nowhere else so far, but here it is now for all to take!
For best results this should be used on a frames site, preferably on a thinner frame. Using this on a non-frames site will slow the scrolling action. Also, visitors using a resolution better than 800x600 will experience a much slower scrolling action. It is advisable to include an additional "jump" link to the top of the page in addition to the scroll link to give your visitor a choice for their convenience. The reason the scroll is slower is difficult to explain - let's just say that the wider the frame, then the more pixels involved, the slower the scrolling action. Images effect the speed of the scoll as well. The thinner the frame the better, since this script takes resources. Netscape is a resource hog, so it has more of an negative effect in Netscape than in IE (wider frames have been known to crash Netscape). There are certainly some drawbacks with it, but it might be useful in certain situations.
